Rubbish and Garbage Collection

The City's rubbish contractor is Waste Management.  Waste Management has a toll free telephone number where residents can call with questions or concerns - 800-796-9696.

Rubbish collection day is Wednesday or Thursday in the city (click here for schedule).  Trash must be placed at the curb by 7:00 am in a trash can or plastic bag in order to assure pick-up.  When a specified holiday occurs during the week, pick-up is delayed one day. The holidays observed by Waste Management New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

Payment for rubbish collection is included on your water bill, marked R&G.

Recycling - Disposal of recyclables is part of your regular trash pickup.  One bin is provided for each household at no charge.  Bins must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your regular collection day to assure pickup.  For a list of materials that can be placed in the recycle bin, click here.

Yard Waste - Grass, weeds, vegetation, small branches/twigs, etc. cannot be placed in your regular trash container.  Yard waste must be placed in a specified paper bag available at grocery or hardware stores or in a receptacle marked with a yard waste sticker available at City Hall or with an "X".  Yard waste placed in plastics bags cannot be collected and will be left.

The City Department of Public Works offers two services to assist with yard cleanup:  leaf collection (during the fall season, click here for schedule) and brush collection (all year, click here for schedule).

Large Items - Large items such as furniture or kitchen appliances can be placed at the curb and will be collected, usually on your regular trash day.  There is no additional charge for large item pick-up.  We ask that you call Waste Management at 800-796-9696 to let them know you have a large item out, because they will probably have to send a special truck for the pick-up.

Prohibited Items - Waste Management does not accept hazardous waste or materials such as oil paint cans, motor oil, tires, propane tanks, automotive parts or construction materials.
