PETITIONS FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE

CITY OF ST. CLAIR

2024 Election cycle: City-Township Non-partisan Nominating petitions & Affidavits of Identity and Receipt for Filing for the nonpartisan elective city offices of mayor and council member must be returned to the local City Clerk’s Office, City of St. Clair, 547 N Carney Drive, St. Clair, Michigan 48079, 810-329-7121 for filing before 4:00 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.                   For candidate information requirements for filing, petitions, campaign finance and more, visit michigan.gov/vote.

Section 2. of the St. Clair City Charter includes sections pertaining to councilmembers’ eligibility, compensation and  meeting requirements:

*only registered voters of the city are eligible to be a candidate for and hold the office of mayor and councilmember

*the council determines the compensation of the mayor and councilmembers, which is currently $800 per year for the mayor and $600 per year for councilmembers

* City Council meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:00pm in the City Hall Council Chambers (unless otherwise scheduled due to a holiday).

Petition Signature Requirements: 15 minimum, 20 maximum, valid signatures of electors from district for all offices; city-wide for mayor, by ward for council.
